The matured George Malcolm

Hey guys! What a tiring day,
Sorry its a bit late right now, and I'm burning the midnight oil to finish this and this post is about the older George Malcolm in The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake.


The first thing that I found about George is that he is proper in the way he dress up. The traits is shown by his appearance, where it is lines of comments by other character, Rose, in the page of 225 where she said, " George drove up in an old gray VW Bug, his hair matted, glasses on, stubble on his cheeks, wearing old jeans and sandals and a T-shirt ". The other line that I choose is " He smelled of fresh-cut apples and sureness ". Both lines shows that he's proper by his casual outfit and the scented smell.


Next, George is always being curious on things. As example like in the page 241, in his actions showing that he tried to search all around Joseph's apartment and being curious on everything that he had thought of being possible to find where Joseph is. " George closed and opened the window, and then did a full exploration of the room : the closet, with its plaid shirts and boots, the pencils on the nightstand, the page of the New York Times glowing on the laptop, once woken up ".


George is also patient throughout his actions. Although Rose always called him, whenever she needed help, George never refuse. He always there to help Rose in all situation like the time Rose had trouble on the food she ate, and the time Joseph went missing at the apartment. There's also a time when Rose called her, on page 263, " Through the wires, his breathing quieted. For a few minutes, we just stayed there on the phone line, together. Stillness, on his end ".


George is not only kind, but also caring. Although he was starting his graduate program at MIT, he still keep in touch with Rose to show that he care. In the page 261, where Rose said that "he called at least once a week ". This shows that he is very concern to Rose and and never forget about Rose. HE treat Rose like his own sister.

In conclusion, we can see that George is a good character and always gives out positive vibes to other character especially to Rose.
